Make Your Own Crayon Lipsticks
Hold up... turning crayons into lipstick is a real thing??! Yes it is! We did some research and found several tutorials (Ms. Toi, belsey, and Veronica loves beauty) for turning crayons into smooth and silky lipsticks! I never really thought about what goes into making lipstick, the only thing that comes to mind is when they used to put in whale blubber or something like that. Anyway, the process for homemade lip product is not as complicated as you would think. The best part is you probably have most of these items at home. >> You are also going to need things to double boil, we used a pan and a small pot. Also, a chopstick and spoon for stirring and distributing.
>> Feel free to substitute shea butter instead of lotion and any other oil as long as the products you use are food and skin safe (jojoba is a great skin and lip oil).
>> Throw in 1/2 teaspoon of oil, 1/2 teaspoon of lotion, and 1/2 crayon. Double-boil until all liquefied and mixed. This takes close to 2 minutes to be completely ready, don't over cook it.
>> Quickly and carefully pour into container. Let it cool in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes. Done!
>> Color swatches! The colors go on more like a lip stain and are a bit sheer but they are still really flattering. The teal looks really ugly on lips but we wanted to try it out for fun, ha! You can apply directly or with a lip brush.

The lipsticks look VERY dry.
ReplyDeleteThey're actually not. The mauve colored one came out a bit dry, but it was an old crayon. But if you're worried yours will turn out dry, you can just add in a bit more lotion and oil than we did. :)
DeleteMy little granddaughters are wanting to try this.....I thought we might use the little pill reminder containers, so they can have several colors to play with......something fun to do with their Mimi.....not sure how Mom and daddy will like it! Teeheehee!

ReplyDeleteIt doesn't really taste like anything, maybe a bit waxy because of the crayons but it smelled like cocoa butter. I actually prefer it than some other perfume tasting lipsticks I've tried!

ReplyDeleteYou should be able to get jojoba oil at Walmart, GNC, Walgreens, or any health/beauty store.

ReplyDeleteI've seen people use olive oil and castor oil. You can use any kind that you are okay with putting on your skin, especially the lips!

ReplyDeleteYou can use any moisturizing lotion, the shea butter is just really good at moisturizing skin. :)

ReplyDeleteHmmm I'm not sure. Monica has seen people use olive oil and castor oil. I think as long as it's oil that can be used on skin.

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what you mean by pencil crayon lead. If you mean colored pencils then definitely not. I only know that crayons work because they are waxy. Hope this helps!

ReplyDeleteWell crayons are nontoxic (they have to be since kids use them) and you should use food/skin safe products. As long as the ingredients are safe the lipsticks should be too. However, if you don't feel safe putting crayons on your face, then maybe skip this diy haha :)

Deleteit depends where you get your crayons/where they are made. Some crayons (made in china) have lead in them. This is a very dangerous idea, imo
ReplyDeleteWe wrote in the post to only use products that are food and skin safe and I have reiterated that in the comments. We used crayola crayons which are nontoxic, but I'll make a note that some crayons may have lead in them (which you really shouldn't be buying anyway).
